Training Pathway for Physios
Psychologically informed care for physios begins with the body.
Understanding the link between body sensations, thoughts, emotions and behaviours is the foundation to providing whole person care.
Mindfulness training provides inside out learning that has the dual benefit of enhancing personal wellbeing and developing skills to provide psychologically informed care for your clients.
Rather than trying to imitate psychologists we need a pathway that builds on our unique body based skill set.
This is an inside out affair where we turn in and bring non-judgemental awareness to body sensations to reframe beliefs, regulate the stress response and find more choice in responding.
Bringing simplicity to the complex…..
Where one simple body-based practice can be a pathway to recovery.
The approach encompasses:
-
-
- What to ask, listen and look for beyond the physical.
- How to create the conditions for neurological, immune and inflammatory system positive change.
- How to adapt hands on or movement interventions to address how the person is thinking, feeling and responding to their situation.
- Clinical reasoning both the narrow view (eg the knee) AND a broader systems view (eg the sympathetic nervous system) of how the person is responding.
- The role of our own beliefs, posture, verbal and body language and reactivity in enhancing or inhibiting healing.
- Our capacity to provide treatment that optimises not just short term recovery but develops long term life learnings.
-
